PM Tusk collects award for promoting European integration

Prime Minister Tusk has been honoured with the prestigious Walther Rathenau Award, which he collected in Berlin, Thursday.

Speaking during the ceremony in Berlin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel recalled the constructive engagement of Donald Tusk in European Union affairs and his contributions to securing a strong position for Poland in the very heart of Europe.
Chancellor Merkel drew attention to the good neighbourly relations and partnership between Poland and Germany which have been developed also thanks to personal efforts of Donald Tusk. She described the Polish government leader as “a farsighted European”.
Donald Tusk has been honoured with the Walther Rathenau Award in recognition for his commitment to European integration during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council in the second halfof 2011 and for fostering Polish-German dialogue.
The Award was established in 2008, with its recipients including Israeli President Shimon Peres and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. (ss/jb)
