The letter concerns Father Wojciech Lemański, the suspended parish priest at a village near Warsaw, who wrote an open letter to Agnieszka Ziółkowska after she announced her intention for apostasy in protest at discrimination of in-vitro children.
Lemański is also known for participating in dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and the Jews.
The letter is signed by Michnik, a legendary opposition figure under the People’s Republic and one of the most influential politicians and intellectuals under democracy, alongside another Gazeta Wyborcza journalist.
The authors declare themselves to be Christian, “although one [of us] has never been baptised and the other does not go to church”. (an)
