“Many things unite Poland and Australia,” Paweł Milewski, Poland's ambassador to Australia told Polskie Radio 24.

Milewski added that despite the large distance separating the two countries, Warsaw and Canberra work well together.

"Both Warsaw and Canberra promote democratic values in the world and on the most important issues, for example in security, the positions of both capitals are very close,” the ambassador said.

Milewski continued that business-economic cooperation between the two countries was also becoming ever closer.

“There exist many large possibilities for economic cooperation in the mining and excavation sector, for example,” Milewski said.

Several bilateral agreements have been signed in recent years between the two countries.

Some 164,000 people of Polish descent live in Australia, nearly half of them born in Poland. Australian investment in Poland is reportedly valued at around A$570 million. (jh)
