Polish border guards help patrol Hungarian-Serbian border

A group of 43 Polish border guards have arrived in Hungary where they are to help patrol the external EU border along the stretch with the Republic of Serbia.

The Poles were officially welcomed by the Hungarian interior minister Sandor Pinter and police general Karoly Papp.

During joint patrols with their Hungarian partners, the Poles will have the task of stopping illegal attempts by migrants to enter the country, and securing public law and order.

They have been entrusted with monitoring a 20 kilometre-wide strip inside Hungarian territory along the Serbian border.

The Polish border guards’ mission in Hungary is to last until 3 December. (ss/nh/rk)
