Armenians stage march in Warsaw

The protesters sang Armenian national songs and brandished banners which urged Turkey to acknowledge responsibility.

When passing close to a section of the Turkish Embassy they shouted slogans denouncing the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as a “terrorist”.

The ambassador of Armenia, who took part in the march, thanked Poles for keeping alive the memory of the Armenians who died.

In 2005, the Polish parliament adopted a resolution which referred to the mass deaths of Armenians during World War I as “genocide”.

Armenians say that up to 1.5 million of their kinsmen died in orchestrated killings. Turkey categorically denies genocide claims, arguing that in 1915-1917 Armenians were the victims of an epidemic. (mk/pk)
