Solidarity icon Lech Walesa has said this morning that he will not be meeting US president Barack Obama, who arrives in Poland today, because he is too busy.

“It doesn't suit me,” he said.

“This time I will not be able to tell the president of the superpower what I have to say to him,” Walesa told public broadcaster TVP.

Walesa explained that he has “a very tight schedule,” and that his 'programme is filled to the maximum.”

Meanwhile, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the leader of the conservative Law and Justice party will be stepping into the Presidential Palace in Warsaw for the first time Since President Komorowski came to power last summer, so as to be able to meet with President Obama at a special meeting of political leaders in Poland.

“I'm doing it for the good of Poland,” he explained, having previously said he would never set foot in the building while President Komorowski was in office.

Other sensitive points revolve around Poland's invitation of the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, to the summit of Central and Eastern European presidents, of which Barack Obama is guest of honour.

Some twenty leaders are due to attend.

However, both the Serbian and Romanian presidents have boycotted the event, as both states do not recognise the Balkan breakaway republic.

Meanwhile, Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic will attend the summit, even though his country does not officially recognise Kosovo as a sovereign state. (nh/pg)
