“The US wants a strong Poland in a strong Europe,” President Barack Obama has told a leading weekly magazine in Poland following his visit to the country, late May.
“In the face of current challenges, the United States has no better partner than Europe,” Obama told the latest edition of Polityka magazine.
“Poland is a leader in the region, as well as in NATO and the EU, and this will become even more apparent in a few weeks when Poland take over the EU presidency,” he adds.
President Obama emphasised that the recent discovery of shale gas deposits in Poland could greatly enhance US-Polish trade relations.
“The rapid economic growth in your country is admirable in Europe, and there are tremendous growth opportunities for economic cooperation, trade and investment.
“We are working hard on strengthening our cooperation in [the energy sector], both in terms of shale gas and nuclear energy. Poland can play an important role in the European efforts to produce clean energy in the future,” Obama told the magazine.
