Data gathered by the Polish foreign ministry show that there were no Polish victims among those killed in Friday's attempted military coup in Turkey, ministry spokesperson Rafał Sobczak said on Saturday.

"According to the information received by the foreign ministry, no Polish tourist suffered in the events in Turkey," Sobczak told journalists.

The spokesperson added, however, that the situation is "dynamic".

The Polish foreign ministry is also yet to confirm any Polish victims or casualties in Thursday’s terrorist attack in Nice.

"We are waiting for a final list of names confirmed by French authorities," Sobczak told journalists on Saturday.

According to a Friday report by Polish news website Onet.pl, two Polish women were among the 84 people killed when a 31-year-old French national of Tunisian origin ploughed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day at the city’s seafront promenade.

Polish sisters Małgorzata and Magdalena, aged 19 and 20, were among the revellers enjoying a fireworks display that night, Onet.pl reported.

Speaking about developments in Turkey, Sobczak said that holidaymakers returning to Poland from Turkey may face "difficulties in air travel and overland transport."

"There may also be disruptions in telephone and online communication," he added.

Sobczak appealed to Poles staying in Turkey to excercise extreme caution, which first and foremost means "avoiding any public gatherings."

"What is also very important is that our citizens strictly follow instructions issued by the country’s law enforcement and trip organisers," he said. (aba/pk)
