The meeting was related to a visit by the Polish president to Israel and the Palestinian territories planned for early next year.

During a joint press conference after the talks, President Duda said that finding a solution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "is close to Poland’s heart".

“We, as Poland, will continue striving for a resolution to this conflict, to calm the situation, so that in the future, two countries can co-exist,” said Duda.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations. "I am very happy with the proposal put forward today to start talks on creating a Polish-Palestinian economic zone" in Palestinian territories, said Duda. He also said that Poland will continue supporting Palestinians with development aid.

On his planned visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories early next year, Duda said that he wants to help solve conflicts in the region, and that he is also concerned about the fate of Christians in the Middle East.

President Duda will also visit Jordan.

This is the first visit by the Palestinian president to Poland in seven years. Mahmoud Abbas will leave Warsaw on Wednesday. (mol/pk)
