He also met representatives of the Polish community.

During his talks with British Columbia Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Suzanne Anton, Minister Waszczykowski noted the excellent state of Polish-Canadian relations and expressed satisfaction that British Columbia’s youth take part in student and research exchange programmes promoted by Polish diplomatic posts.

During his meetings with business delegations at the EU Chamber of Commerce in Canada-West and at KGHM International, the minister said that the good political climate in Polish-Canadian relations offers prospects for developing trade relations and bilateral investment.

According to Minister Waszczykowski, the current levels of trade relations and Canadian investment in Poland are still unsatisfactory. He expressed hope that the EU-Canada comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA) will give a renewed impetus to our economic relations.

Minister Waszczykowski furthermore met representatives of the Polish community in Vancouver. He recalled that “the government is taking a number of measures in order to develop more efficient and, most of all, stable ways of supporting the Polish diaspora mainly in terms of education, the media, teaching Polish language, history and culture, and preserving the national heritage.”

“To this end, we’re working on legislative solutions to streamline the sustained financing of cooperation with Polish communities abroad,” he said. He called on the Polish-Canadian community to “continue to work together on defending the good name of Poland and historical truth.”
