Nearly 200 countries are represented at the 11-day summit, which will discuss the Paris Agreement, an international deal to limit greenhouse gas emissions starting from 2020.
Deputy environment minister Paweł Sałek, who is heading the Polish delegation at the conference, said Poland would be an active participant in negotiations.
“We particularly want to promote our idea of using forests to decrease carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere,” Sałek said.
Poland has proposed expanding forests and planting species of trees that will absorb the most carbon dioxide gas.
According to National State Forests, Poland’s forest management organization, this method will allow 40 million tonnes of carbon to be stored in Polish forests over ten years. (vb/pk)
