Customs guards inspected the Audi car, which was travelling from Spain, on 26 March.
They initially found banknotes under the front seats and near the boot of the car, and found more in a container behind the rear bumper when they began dismantling the vehicle.
In total, banknotes worth EUR 1,033,225 were found. The customs agency said it was a case of money laundering and added that it was a breach of obligations to file a declatation before crossing the border with sums of more than EUR 10,000.
Two individuals were travelling in the car but information about them has not been released. (vb/pk)
