Polański rape victim asks court to end case

The woman whom Polish film director Roman Polański admitted raping in 1977 when she was 13 years old has asked the courts to end the case.

A lawyer for the victim, Samantha Geimer, said that she is “tired” of the ongoing case and has asked for it to be dropped.
The lawyer told the Reuters news agency that Geimer will ask a Los Angeles court to end the case.
“She is coming with her husband because she is tired of this case going on for 40 years," the legal counsel said. “She wants it over.”
Polański fled the US in February 1978, shortly before being sentenced for unlawful sex with a 13-year-old girl. Having Polish-French citizenship, he settled in Paris, where he has been chiefly based ever since.
He was arrested in 2009, while entering Switzerland to receive a prize at the Zurich Film Festival, as a US request for his extradition had been freshly submitted. However, the Swiss authorities ultimately backed down after keeping Polański under house arrest for several months.
The director returned to France but he has frequently visited Poland, where he grew up in a secular Jewish family in the city of Kraków. (rg/pk)
