Polish, Croatian terminals will not compete against each other: Croatian President

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said Poland’s northwestern Świnoujście LNG terminal and one planned on the island of Krk in Croatia would be connected in order to secure regional energy independence.

Grabar-Kitarović said the two gas terminals would not be in competition, but that they would complement each other.

Grabar-Kitarović was speaking at a two-day Global Forum - an annual transatlantic conference on democracy, prosperity and security - which started in Warsaw on Thursday to coincide with US President Donald Trump’s visit to the Polish capital.

Poland has recently received a one-off consignment of LNG from the US with hopes for more, and has purchased gas from Qatar in a bid to diversify its supply.

Poland could become a regional distribution hub, the country’s Finance and Development Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said. (vb/pk)
