While in Bulgaria, Szydło said that unity was the bloc's "indisputable value".
After talks with her Bulgarian counterpart in Sofia, Szydło also said that Bulgaria is "trustworthy" and should join the Schengen area of passport-free travel for European Union nationals.
Szydło commended Bulgaria for its "effective" policies to protect the European Union’s external border, adding that Poland is open to the bloc’s expansion.
At a joint press conference with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Szydło also said that Poland was open to working with Bulgaria. She said the countries were "friends … united by very many common issues".
Szydło added that Poland and Bulgaria “are countries which believe that the unity of the European Union, the unity of our region, is the foundation for the future and development of the European Union”. (vb/pk)
