Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary must look for allies beyond their regional Visegrad Group (V4) to push through a range of policies within Europe, Czech parliamentary election winner Andrej Babiš has said.

Talking to the Reuters news agency after the votes were counted, Babiš listed dual quality of food, “the fight against migration” and other issues for which he said the four Visegrad Group nations should seek allies within the European Union.

“The Visegrad Group must find other allies, we need Austria and other countries, in the Balkans, or Slovenia, Croatia and perhaps others,” the 63-year-old Babiš said, as a quoted by Reuters.

The business tycoon’s ANO movement won 29.7 percent of the vote in Saturday’s election, in what observers said marked a right-wing shift in Czech politics. (gs/pk)
