The Speaker of the lower house of Poland’s parliament, Marek Kuchciński, and his Slovak counterpart, Andrej Danko, have said they advocate closer bilateral collaboration on transport and security.

A meeting between the two politicians was part of Kuchciński’s visit on Tuesday to Slovakia.
“Boosting [bilateral] parliamentary collaboration is becoming one of the key driving forces behind Polish-Slovak relations,” Kuchciński said following the talks.
Kuchciński also spoke of the prospects for a rapid development of infrastructure linking the two countries.
“The Polish side has decided that Via Carpatia, the major traffic route connecting northern and southern Europe, which passes through the eastern parts of Poland and Slovakia, is a strategic road investment project for Poland, and, hopefully, for all of Europe,” Kuchciński said.
Poland also backs the construction of a gas link connecting an existing LNG terminal in Świnoujście, northwestern Poland, and a planned terminal in Croatia, the IAR news agency reported.
Joint Olympic Games?
Danko, meanwhile, said that efforts were underway to improve infrastructure in the Tatra mountain range straddling the Polish-Slovak border.
He also said that “Poland and Slovakia would certainly be capable of organising the [Winter] Olympics in the region.”
Later, Kuchciński tweeted: “Jointly organised Olympic Games is a good idea,” adding that this required “unifying regulations on sports and tourism.”
During his visit to Bratislava, Kuchciński is also to meet Slovak President Andrej Kiska and Prime Minister Robert Fico. (aba/pk)
