In a statement published on the State Department’s website on Thursday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that, by invading Ukraine, “Russia has acted in a manner unworthy of a great nation and has chosen to isolate itself from the international community”.
He also said Russia undermined the principle that “no country can change the borders of another by force,” a principle which he called “one of the foundations upon which our shared security and safety rests”.
Pompeo also said that the “United States rejects Russia’s attempted annexation of Crimea and pledges to maintain this policy until Ukraine’s territorial integrity is restored".
Czaputowicz said that the US declaration dispelled any doubts about a possible change in America’s policy on Russia and Ukraine.
The Polish foreign ministry published its own declaration on Wednesday, reiterating many of Pompeo’s remarks. (vb/pk)
