The ministers are expected to discuss the situation in the Middle East, transatlantic ties, and the Western Balkans nations which are aspiring to join the European Union.
On the summit’s agenda is also one meeting with the foreign ministers of European Union candidate countries and another with diplomats from the post-Soviet Eastern Partnership countries and Turkey.
Called a Gymnich meeting, the informal summit has been held every six months since 1974. It does not include aides to foreign ministers, thus allowing for candid talks. (vb/pk)
