‘Chaotic' hard Brexit avoided with new date: Polish PM

Poland’s prime minister has said that a six-month extension granted to Britain by EU leaders averted the prospect of a “chaotic hard Brexit.”

Mateusz Morawiecki was speaking after European Union leaders meeting in Brussels agreed to delay Britain's departure from the bloc until October 31.
"We have worked out a good compromise because we’ve managed to avoid a no-deal Brexit," the Polish prime minister told reporters after the summit in Brussels in the early hours of Thursday.
He said that the compromise "gives the UK enough time to once again negotiate a withdrawal agreement within its parliament and vote for this withdrawal agreement, because we believe that this is a good deal."
He added: “It protects the rights of Polish workers, Polish citizens who live and work in the UK."
Morawiecki has previously told reporters that a no-deal Brexit would be a bad scenario for both the UK and the EU.
Around 1 million Poles live in the UK, constituting that country’s largest minority community.
A Polish deputy foreign minister said last month that a no-deal Brexit would "cause enormous damage to everyone.”
