Brzezinski at filming of Polish spy thriller

Zbigniew Brzezinski, national security advisor under the 1970s Carter administration, came to the set to watch the filming of a scene involving one of the crucial meetings between himself and Jack Strong, an alias given to Kuklinski, which took place in 1994, thirteen years after Kuklinski was extracted from Poland by the CIA during the communist-era.

A spokesperson for Scorpio Studio, the movie's producer, said that his meeting with Krzysztof Pieczyński, the actor who portrays him in the film, was “very moving”.

Brzezinski was consulted during the work on the script, alongside CIA agent David Forden, CIA analyst Aris Pappas and former Polish ambassador in Washington Jerzy Koźminski.

Aris Pappas, who also came to the set of ‘Jack Strong’, told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that he had analysed Kuklinski’s reports for many years, without even knowing who wrote them.

He remained in close contact with Kuklinski until the colonel’s death in 2004.

“He was a true hero. His motives were absolutely anti-Soviet,” he said, although many Poles consider Kulinski a traitor for passing on state secrets.

Ryszard Kuklinski passed over 40, 000 pages of mostly Soviet secret documents to the CIA between 1971 and 1981, relating, among other things, to plans for the imposition of martial law in Poland.

The film is directed by Wladysław Pasikowski and will be premiered in Poland in February next year. (mk/pg)
