The 80 year-old widow of the late John Lennon was honoured for “acting locally to change the face of the modern world”.
On Wednesday evening, Yoko Ono appeared with Sonic Youth guitarist and lead singer Thurston Moore during a concert at the arts festival run by composer Jan P. Kaczmarek.
"This is the first time I'm in Poznan and I'm so glad! Hello!,” she told the audience at the festival, now in its third edition.
Previous winners of the Transatlantyk Glocal Hero Award are Danish scientist Bjorn Lomborg and Polish classical composer Krzysztof Penderecki and his wife Elzbieta.
The festival ends Friday. (pg)
