Over 160 publishers from Poland and five other countries – the Vatican, Italy, France, Germany and Slovakia – have participated in the annual Catholic Book Fair in Warsaw, which closed at the weekend.
The programme of the event included panel discussions, meetings with writers and film shows.
One of the central themes of the event is the forthcoming canonization of Pope John Paul II.
His life and pastoral work was the subject of around thirty books promoted at the fair.
They included a Polish translation of his biography by Andrea Riccardi, an interview with Father Sławomir Oder, postulator in the Pope’s canonization process and a book documenting the surveillance of Karol Wojtyła, future Pope, by the communist secret services in Poland.
This was the 20th edition of the Catholic Book Fair in Warsaw and its organizers say that the event has attracted some 100,000 visitors since its foundation. (mk)
