An exhibition of posters by Rafal Olbinski, the world acclaimed Polish artist, opened on Saturday. Titled “The Magic of Opera” it will be on till 25 April.

Two film screenings are also planned for movie audiences in Oaxaca this Thursday and Friday.

The first documentary is Home: Warsaw-Mexico by Ela Chrzanowska and the other title is Santa Rosa. An Odyssey In The Rhythm of Mariachi.

This second documentary tackles a very little known episode of World War Two history. It tells the story of some 1,500 Polish escapees from a Russian gulag, who after a long journey through a number of countries finally found shelter on the Santa Rosa ranch near the town of Leon, in central Mexico.

“This is a touching example of how people of one far away nation extended a hand to those of another when they truly needed help,” Piotr Piwowarczyk, the co-producer and screenwriter of the film told Polish Radio. (ss)
