'Bridge of Spies' brings a real-life legacy to the silver screen, exploring the U-2 Incident, during which a US spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union.

Tom Hanks plays New York lawyer James Donovan, who is persuaded by US authorities to negotiate the release of pilot Francis Gary Powers in exchange for a Soviet spy.

Spielberg shot much of the film in Wrocław, Lower Silesia, with set designers even constructing a stretch of the Berlin Wall in the city.

The cinematography was handled by Spielberg's longstanding Polish-born collaborator Janusz Kamiński, who won Oscars for his work on 1993 film 'Schindler's List' (also shot in Poland) and Saving Private Ryan (1998).

The new movie, which was written by the Coen brothers with Matt Charman, was initially entitled St James Place, but the more catchy 'Bridge of Spies' has now been chosen.

The world premiere is expected in October 2015. (nh)
