The director's latest release was recently named Poland’s official Oscar candidate.
Directed by the man behind celebrated Essential Killing (2010), Four Nights with Anna (2008), The Lightship (1985), the new Polish-Irish co-production starts Andrzej Chyra (Katyn, The Debt) and up-and-coming Dawid Ogrodnik (You are God, I Want to Live).
The festival, which opens today, will feature nearly 240 feature films from 72 countries screened at several venues across London. Over the next twelve days, cinema buffs will have the opportunity to meet actors, critics and filmmakers including Małgorzata Szumowska, whose acclaimed drama Body is billed for screening at the festival.
In 2013, the Best Film Award went to Polish film director Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida, later recognized as the best foreign language film at the 87th Academy Awards. This season, Pawlikowski is to head the competition jury in London. (aba/rk)
