The awards, also known as 'The Eagles', are voted for by members of the Polish Film Academy and they have been given out since 1999.
Leading the pack this time around is Małgorzata Szumowska's 'Body', with nominations in nine of the event's 19 categories, including Best Film and Best Director.
The movie is an exploration of loss and reconciliation laced with black humour, set in contemporary Warsaw, and it has already garnered a slew of awards including the Silver Lion at the Berlin Film Festival.
Second in terms of the number of nominations (seven in all) is veteran director Janusz Majewski's 'The Eccentrics: On the Sunny Side of the Street', a bittersweet comedy about a Pole who tries to launch a swing band in the so-called thaw that followed Stalin's death.
Both films were a success at the Gdynia Film Festival, Poland's key annual showcase of new movies, taking first and second prize respectively.
Third in the nominations stakes is Kinga Dębska's 'These Daughters of Mine', which looks at a family that's put under pressure by events beyond their control.
The awards ceremony will be held on 7 March. (nh/pk)
