The festival, which was launched in 2008, swiftly established itself as one of the key fixtures in Poland's cinematic calendar, drawing guests such as Tim Roth, Peter Weir and Luc Besson.
The main competition, titled 'Making Way', focuses on emerging international talent. Twelve films are pitted against each other, but only debut or second features are allowed to compete. The winner receives the Kraków Film Award of USD 100,000.
One Polish film invariably competes in the main competition, and festival organisers have announced that Agnieszka Smoczyńska's award-winning debut 'The Lure' has been chosen this year.
A competition of new Polish films is also held annually, and the contenders will be announced shortly, together with this year's special guests.
Krzysztof Zanussi was a leading proponent of the so-called “Cinema of Moral Anxiety” of the seventies and early eighties, probing chinks in Poland's communist reality.
This year's Netia Off Camera Festival runs from 29 April to 8 May. (nh/pk)
