The jury of the Transatlantyk International Film Competition, comprising of Richard N. Gladstein (Head of the Jury), Joanna Kos-Krauze, Keith David, Dan Lebental and John Maclean, decided that this year’s best film of the festival is Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “Aquarius”.
The film was warmly welcomed in Poland.
According to the website of the Transatlantyk Festival in Łódź, central Poland, the story follows “an investor who wants to demolish a two-story building in order to replace it with luxurious apartments, violently tears into the life of a 70-year-old woman who has been inhabiting the place for years. Lucia is the only resident of the building called Aquarius. She objects to investor’s plans, as she doesn’t want to leave her home, where she has raised three children and managed to overcome what seemed to be a terminal disease."
The film was presented during the main competition of this year’s Cannes Festival.
