Walewska received the award on Tuesday after her performance in the opera “Goplana” at the National Opera in Warsaw, where she had her national debut 25 years ago.
Walewska has had “one of the most dazzling vocal and acting careers in the history of Polish vocalists over the last decades,” said Waldemar Dąbrowski, director of the National Opera in Warsaw.
The Gloria Artis medal is awarded by the Polish ministry of culture for outstanding achievement in the arts, cultural activities and the protection of cultural and national heritage. (vb/pk)
