The intergovernmental conference in the United Arab Emirates capital is a joint initiative by France and the UAE, dedicated to the protection of world cultural heritage sites.
Speakers at the conference include French President Francois Hollande, as well as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
The conference will deal with saving world cultural heritage sites currently under threat from armed conflicts, terrorism and illicit trafficking.
The event takes place on 2-3 December.
According to UNESCO, there are dozens of world heritage sites which are under threat. These include the archeological sites of Leptis Magna and Cyrene, which have been put on a watch list during the ongoing Libyan civil war, as well as several sites in war-torn Syria. (rg)
