Among the exhibits are nearly 40 posters promoting Wajda's films in Germany, France, Japan, Vietnam and Cuba.
The exhibition's curator Tomasz Taraszkiewicz said that showing foreign posters of Wajda's films allows for them to be considered from a new perspective, “without the burden of history, which we, Poles, have when we watch Wajda's pictures”.
“We thought it was interesting, how the movies were perceived abroad and how viewers were lured to the cinema,” Taraszkiewicz added.
For the exhibition, the museum of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, in southern Poland, has loaned an Oscar, which Wajda received in 2000 for his contribution to world cinema, and a Golden Palm, which he won at the Cannes Film Festival for his 1981 picture “Man of Iron”.
Samples of Wajda's photography and paintings will also be on show until the exhibition closes on 22 January.
Wajda died in October this year. (vb/pk)
