The distinction recognises “creativity and insight in presenting the full diversity of the Jewish experience through the moving image”.
Holland will collect the award at a ceremony on 27 May, after a screening of her 1985 Oscar-nominated film “Angry Harvest”.
The other 2017 recipient of the Visionary Award is the iconic American filmmaker Barry Levinson, winner of Best Director Academy Award for “Rain Man” in 1988.
The programme of the Washington Jewish Film Festival also includes “The Sandglass” by the Polish director Wojciech Has (1925-2000). The film won the Jury Prize at the 1973 Cannes Festival.
