Polish president sends Easter greetings to Orthodox Christians

The Polish President has sent Easter greetings to Orthodox Christians as they celebrate the religious holiday this weekend.

Like Polish Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians also have baskets of traditional Easter food blessed at church on Holy Saturday. Photo: PAP/Darek Delmanowicz.

According to the Central Statistical Office, some 500,000 Poles are Orthodox Christians, making them the second-largest religious group in Poland after Roman Catholics. Most Orthodox Christians live in Poland's northeast.

Poland's Greek-Catholics, who also celebrate Easter this weekend, number 300,000. (vb)
