Money collected in boxes placed around the city as well as during charity auctions and cultural and sports events will go toward educational needs and holiday camps.

The camps are expected to allow children from Syria's Aleppo and other towns in war-torn regions to spend two to three weeks far away from the area of conflict.

The campaign is a joint initiative by Kielce City Hall, local Roman Catholic Church authorities, the Church in Need papal association, the Caritas charity and local universities.

It is due to run until the end of September. The organisers are hoping to raise the equivalent of at least EUR 90,000.
