Poles say Pope JPII remains moral authority: survey

Forty years after Polish Cardinal Karol Wojtyła was elected Pope John Paul II, 92 percent of adults in Poland say the late pontiff remains a moral authority for them.

Meanwhile, 13 years after the pope died, 96 percent say Poles still remember John Paul II, according to a survey by pollster CBOS.
Seventy-two percent said that Poles are familiar with the late pope’s teachings.
John Paul II headed the Roman Catholic Church from October 16, 1978 until his death on April 2, 2005.
He was the third longest-serving pontiff in history and was declared a saint in 2014.
A host of events was held on Sunday as Poles remembered the late pontiff. (pk/vb)
