According to TOPR, the trails in the mountain range are icy and covered with a layer of snow, which makes them exceptionally dangerous for tourists to use.
According to Poland’s Gazeta Wyborcza daily, similar conditions a few years ago resulted in several deaths, both in the Polish Tatras and on the other side of the border in the Slovak part of the mountain range.
In addition, a helicopter used by TOPR is undergoing a technical check-up, leaving Polish rescuers forced to ask the Slovak service for help in case of an emergency in the next few weeks.
The Tatra mountains are a popular holiday destination for Poles both in the summer and winter.
