Events include concerts, lectures, exhibitions and workshops exploring various aspects of Jewish culture and heritage.
The founder and director of the festival, Janusz Makuch, has described the annual event as “a tribute to Jewish civilisation and to all the people of goodwill who want to draw an inspiration from this civilisation for their own, better life.”
Talking to newsmen, Makuch said that the theme of this year’s event is "the earth" in terms of “one of the four elements” and also as “a place that builds identity, preserves human memory and creates a future.”
Kraków’s Jewish Culture Festival, now in its 29th year, will be held under the auspices of Polish President Andrzej Duda.
Most of the events take place in the city’s former Jewish district of Kazimierz until June 30.
