The exhibition focuses on Wajda’s 12 productions with that company, which included Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macbeth, Dostoyevski's Crime and Punishment, Sophocles’s Antigone, and Stanisław Wyspiański’s The Wedding and November Night.
The display features videos from the performances and recorded interviews with the director and others, in addition to photos, costumes and stage sets.
Curator Anna Litak says the exhibition allows visitors to gain insights into Wajda’s creative process.
The event runs until the end of July.
Theatre was an important part of Wajda’s artistic career, which, however, focused on film, with masterpieces such as Canal, The Promised Land, The Maids of Wilko, Man of Marble, Man of Iron, and Katyn.
Wajda’s honours included an Oscar for Lifetime Achievement and four Oscar nominations in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
He died in 2016, at the age of 90.
