Agnieszka Holland film shortlisted for Critics’ Choice Award

In Darkness, the new movie by Polish director Agnieszka Holland, has been nominated for the prestigious Critics’ Choice Movie Award in the Best Foreign Film category.

The awards are bestowed annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association which brings together critics from the United States and Canada.
Winners will be announced on 12 January.
Holland’s film is also the Polish candidate for an Academy Award in the same category. Oscar nominations will be announced on 24 January.
Insiders believe that the Critics’ Choice Movie Award nomination has enhanced the film’s chances in the race of an Oscar.
In Darkness is the gripping true story of which centres on a Polish sewer worker in Lvov who keeps a group of Jews hidden in the sewers under the noses of the occupying Nazi forces for fourteen months.
Critics stress Holland’s incredible skills in recreating the murky sewers, in both design and lighting, masterfully sustaining the drama even as it takes place in gloom.
The film goes on general release in Poland on 5 January. (mk)
