Polish meat exports have already declined by 30 percent this year, according to the Polish Meat Association, after allegations, and now evidence, that horse had entered Poland's beef production.

President of the Polish Meat Association, Witold Choiński, has told Polish Radio that foreign orders declined before horse DNA traces were detected in three samples at three different meat processing plants in Poland late on Wednesday.
Witold Choiński says that because horse is cheaper than beef it has been added by unscrupulous processing plants.
“I think so-called 'trimmings' have been added,” he said.
He added that it was too early to put the blame on Polish meat processors themselves as they could have received contaminated meat from other suppliers.
Poland has been under suspicion of being a source of horse entering beef production since the scandal first broke in Ireland in January, with the Irish agricultural ministry saying that horse DNA found in beef burgers could have come from Polish suppliers. (pg)
