“The earliest possible opportunity to introduce such a charge would be 1 June 2014, and in my opinion it should not be later than 1 January 2015,” Zdrojewski told Polish Radio on Tuesday.
“The new requirement, which will replace the subscription fee, should cost about 10 zloty per month (2.4 euro),” he noted.
Data compiled by Poland's National Broadcasting Council shows that about two thirds of Poles are not paying licence fees, whuch fund TVP television and Polish Radio.
Zdrojewski has indicated that the charge will be collected in one of two ways.
“The first, which would be the most straightforward, would be from the household, the actual address, both for businesses and individuals,” he said.
The second possibility involves adding the cost to an electricity bill, for example.
According to the draft legislation, customers will no longer be obliged to register ownership of radio and televisual devices. (nh/pg)
