The thoroughfare is up by one slot on the list compared to 2013.

“The average retail rent on Nowy Swiat reaches 1,000 euro per square metre per year. By comparison, rates on the Fifth Avenue are 30 times higher,” says Marek Noetzel from Cushman & Wakefield.

The second runner-up in Poland is Florianska Street in Krakow – there retailers must pay 900 euro per square metre annually. Third in the ranking is Warsaw’s Chmielna Street, with a rate of 840 euro per square metre.

On a global scale, the most expensive street in the world is New York’s Fifth Avenue, which outpaced Causeway Bay in Hong Kong after a two-year hiatus.

The last in the top three and the priciest shopping location in Europe is the Champs Elysees in Paris.

Cushman & Wakefield has been issuing its annual report surveying the top 330 high-end streets on the retail market in 65 countries since the 1980s. (aba/jb)
