2014 tractor sales worst in five years

In November alone, the number of new tractor registrations amounted to 746, 14 percent down on the same month in 2013.

According to Martin & Jacob, an agricultural consultancy, it was also the worst November in terms of tractor sales since 2005.

The 2014 drop comes on the back of poor sales in 2013, which also saw negative growth of 22 percent on the previous year.

“Farmers are holding back on their purchases while they wait for the next year’s payout from the [EU’s] Rural Development Programme,” said Mariusz Chrobot from Martin & Jacob.

After eleven months of 2014, none of the three largest producers saw sales growth. New Holland sales dropped 3.8 percent, while John Deere and Zetor saw a drop of over 20 percent.

However, five smaller producers saw a rise in sales in 2014: Kubota, Case IH, Deutz-Fahr, Farmtrac and Belarus. (jb)
