Polish clients of HSBC’s London office hid almost USD 1 billion in secretive Swiss bank accounts it has been revealed.

According to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism (ICIJ), which has released the data, Poland ranked 47th among the countries with the largest dollar amounts in the leaked Swiss files.
“The maximum amount of money associated with a [single] client connected to Poland was USD 293.4 million,” the Swiss Leaks website reads. In total, 512 Poles opened 1,185 bank accounts.
The total amount of money held in Swiss accounts by Polish nationals or Polish passport holders, was approximately USD 865.6 million.
The list was first leaked by Franco-Italian whistleblower Hervé Falciani in 2007. (rg)
