JSW miners go back at work

Workers at Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa have returned to work for the first time on Monday since going on an indefinite strike on 28 January.

A deal was signed on Friday evening between unions and the company's management board that if workers turned in to work on Monday, CEO Jarosław Zagórowski would step down.
Other conditions set by Zagórowski, include the miners turning up to work on Monday, and the introduction of a six-day week, meaning workers would mine for coal between Monday and Saturday.
Unions called the strike – which over time escalated to standoffs with the police – over requests for Zagórowski's resignation.
It is yet to be seen whether Zagórowski will stick to his part of the deal.
Since the beginning of the strike, the company has lost around PLN 30 million (USD 8.17 million, EUR 7.17 million ) a day. (rg)
