Duda's plans could see 20 percent not paying tax

The daily "Rzeczpospolita" reports based on data from the Ministry of Finance that increasing the tax-free threshold to PLN 8,000 per year could make up to four million Poles immune from income tax. At present, the 18 percent and 32 percent tax bands cover 20 million taxpayers.

PiS MP and co-author of the party’s economic programme, Paweł Szałamacha said the proposed changes would relieve those working part-time, on civil-legal contracts and pensioners. "Those on an income that is not enough for decent survival cannot pay taxes," he said.

The authors of the project want PIT people with incomes below the subsistence level (PLN 460 per month) to be exempted from tax and later those earning less than PLN 850. (jh)
