The inaugural Polish export train in what is set to be a regular two-way service to China left Łódż in central Poland on Monday.
The route between Łódż and Chengdu, south west China, has been principally used by Chinese exporters since it started in 2013.
“This is the beginning of a regular service in which cargo trains between Łódż and Chengdu will run twice a week,” confirmed Sławomir Knap of Hatrans Logistics, which is operating the service.
It took some time to clear Polish products that meet all the desired Chinese import criteria, but this has now been straightened out.
According to Knap, the Polish products – mainly from well known brands – are both attractively priced and of a high quality.
The Polish products on the inaugural outbound service included beer, juices, mineral water and confectionery.
Poland has been working to consolidate trading ties with China in recent years, and former president Bronisław Komorowski visited the country in 2011. Komorowski's successor President Andrzej Duda has just announced plans to do likewise with a trip to Beijing. (nh/rk)
