Kraków edition of Monopoly on sale

A Kraków edition of popular board game Monopoly has gone on sale as part of a new range marking 80 years since the game was launched.

The most expensive spot on the Kraków board is Wawel Royal Castle, while the cheapest is the district of Nowa Huta, originally a town in its own right that was built following WWII in the Socialist Realist style.
Other properties include newly-erected edifices such as the ICE Kraków Congress Centre and the Kraków Arena, alongside historic landmarks such as the Cloth Hall, the Kościuszko Mound and Błonia, the vast common where the city's first football match was played.
Somewhat controversial may seem the lack of the Jagiellonian University, Poland's oldest seat of higher learning, while Kraków's University of Science and Technology and the Pedagogical University were both included.
Although the figure is unofficial, it has been claimed that institutions were obliged to pay PLN 80,000 to feature in the game.
The first Warsaw edition of Monopoly was released in 1992, while Gdańsk, northern Poland, was given its own version in November 2014. Recently, an edition representing pre-war Warsaw has been released. (nh/di)
