Labour Ministry: Poland plans no changes to insurance premium payments

Poland plans no changes to the system of social insurance premium payments, the Labour Ministry said in a statement on its website, referring to a press article and earlier comments of deputy Labour Minister Marcin Zieleniecki.

“The Ministry […] conducts and plans no work on changing [the system] of social insurance premium payments,” the statement reads.

The comment follows a Wednesday article in the Fakt tabloid, which warned about Poland's plans of increasing social insurance premiums for the self-employed through collecting a premium proportional to revenues rather than a monthly standard of PLN 1,092. The article cited deputy Labor Minister Marcin Zieleniecki.

These comments “from deputy minister Marcin Zieleniecki were a voice in the discussion on the justification of the presidential bill lowering the retirement age,” the ministry's statement reads.

Bringing retirement age down to 65 years for men and 60 for women was among the promises of the now ruling Law and Justice party in the run-up to general elections on 25 October. Poland's previous liberal government had raised the retirement age to 67 quoting demographic reasons. (rg/rk)
